The Need for Available Contraceptives With each miraculous birth the world’s population heads further towards destruction due to overpopulation. Globally, the population is increasing at a rate of 1 billion every decade, a rate that mankind has never seen before (Bongaarts). Most of this huge increase in population is in developing countries where the population is currently 4.3 billion and is expected to more than double within the next hundred years (Bongaarts). Considering that the world’s resources are already being stretched to sustain the current population a high birth rate will be catastrophic if if is allowed to continue. This population boom must be stopped in order to ensure that future generations can experience†¦show more content†¦In addition, experts have concluded that until the population becomes stable, social, economic, and health problems will not be solved and may only get worse (â€Å"Whose future?). We cannot allow ourselves to destroy humanity’s future. Though a daunting task, controlling the booming population is not as intimidating as other world problems. Most developed countries already have the experience, safe and effective products, and money to support global spread of birth control. Developed countries must do all they can financially, technologically, and instructionally to aid developing countries to restrain the runaway population. If developed countries fully commit to helping population control as they ought to, even poor rural Africans will be able to control their fertility. Developed countries provide the solution to the rapid birth rate. The solution is birth control and family planning- â€Å"a way or method to delay or avoid a pregnancy† (Geelhoed 713). There are a variety of methods produced in the developing world including â€Å"oral and injectable contraceptives, intrauterine devices and condoms†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (Geelhoed 709). The developed world has spread these products to the Third World and helped many, but there are still huge numbers of people who need help. Already ten million couples in the developing world use condoms and even more need them (Rosenfield).
